TREATMENT FINDER

Dental hygiene is one of the most important aspects of dentistry

Here at Rotherholme Dental, our philosophy is to do everything possible to prevent gum disease, with constructive educational advice, diligent tooth and gum cleaning, and positive reinforcement towards our patients.

Introducing you to our Dental Hygiene Services

Treatment objective: To prevent, diagnose and treat gum disease/oral hygiene.

Process: Full clean of your gum line and teeth to remove plaque and tartar staining/buildup.

Nature of treatment: Preventive. Removing biofilm from your teeth is crucial to avoiding gum disease.

Your Appointment

  1. Examination. Your hygienist will assess your gums to identify how much plaque and tartar are present along your gum line and on your teeth.
  2. Identifying your risk factors. Your hygienist will ask you a few questions about your lifestyle, oral hygiene routine, diet, and medical history.
  3. Remove biofilm from your teeth. Your hygienist will use ultrasonic and hand-scaling equipment to remove the plaque and tartar from your teeth.
  4. Airflow (optional). We offer an upgraded hygienist clean using our state-of-the-art Airflow polishing tool. This is ideal for patients who have significant biofilm build up which cannot entirely be reached using hand scaling equipment. Your hygienist will let you know if you are a good candidate for Airflow.
  5. Advice to support your oral hygiene efforts. Your hygienist will offer you some educational advice to help you improve your brushing and flossing routine techniques. They can also help you identify what might be causing oral hygiene-related problems such as gum disease and gum recession, allowing you to make the necessary alterations to your routine.

Protecting Our Patients From Gum Disease

Whilst gum disease can be reversed in its early stages, advanced gum disease (periodontitis) cannot.

Routine hygienist appointments are vital, as even the most oral-hygiene-conscious and conscientious of individuals will accumulate plaque and tartar along their gum lines. How often you visit for a routine cleaning will correspond with:

  • The condition of your oral hygiene.
  • Your risk factors for gum disease.
  • The type of medications you are on (if any).

Generally, we recommend twice-yearly cleanings.

Life Benefits

  • Fresher breath following treatment.
  • Healthier-looking teeth (as plaque and tartar staining are removed).
  • Oral hygiene-related problems are identified.
  • Help reduce your risk of gum disease.

Why choose Rotherholme Dental?

At the heart of our practice is a belief in personalised care. We recognise that every patient is unique and tailor our treatments to meet your needs and goals. If you have an orthodontic appliance or restoration such as a bridge or denture, our hygienists can offer the specific hygiene cleaning and advice required.

Our hygienists are preventive-minded clinical professionals who provide constructive and jargon-free advice to help you avoid gum disease and other oral hygiene-related concerns.

They use gentle techniques to remove harmful plaque and tartar from your gum line and will highlight the importance of this undertaking to you during your visit. They will measure your full mouth bleeding score, allowing them to diagnose early-onset gum disease (gingivitis) and advanced gum disease (periodontitis). This information is crucial in helping our team identify the need for a referral for advanced periodontal treatment.

We work with trusted clinical professionals in Tamworth and Leicester for periodontal referrals.
